LGC (1st team) vs Durbanville: 2 – 2 draw

L2 A (3rd team) vs WPCC: 2 – 1 win

L2 B (4th team) vs Milnerton: 1 – 1 draw
Where has the year gone, the last game of the season against top of the log Milnerton had arrived. We were amped and ready to finish the season off with a bang. The full squad minus Jenny ‘bad-back’ Spiro, gathered in the den and eagerly awaited the game plan from MH ‘Coach’ Hoben. Nadya ‘lightning’ Buchanan had a blonde moment … how can we play with 5 forwards, 5 links and 6 defenders but was protectively defended by her twin, Ade ‘BEE’ May. Debbie ‘tourist’ Law, could hardly contain her excitement to be playing another game, Sandi ‘time-keeper’ Smith could not seem to find a comfortable perch, Cindy ‘SS’ Dyamond appears not to know her left from her right shoe. The warm-up was uneventful with Kathy ‘roadrunner’ Smith managing to stay on her feet, Pippa ‘dance’ Readhead practicing the pop and Dal’e-lama’ in her own space. Paul ‘the blower’ West called the captains and El ‘tosser’ Mullins, did her thing. Les ‘Techie’ West became the official photographer for the day. Milnerton managed to score (in the first quarter) with a ball moving at snail’s pace – beating Michelle ‘legend’ Hoben on the post. The game migrated all over the park. Milnerton did their level best to pull us out of our formation, to no avail. We tried very trick in the book, including Careen ‘cracker’ McKinon passing left! Shar ‘Strategist’ Kruger called the shots at the short corner and still we could not capitalize. Eventually in the last quarter, with the first shot ricocheting off the keeper back to a determined Alison ‘no-name’ Gray for a second shot which went like a bullet into the back of the box. In the second half, despite Genee’post-it’ Clarke finding herself in favorable positions and Wendy ‘woolies’ Gray some well angled overheads we were not able to add to our tally. Milnerton gave it horns and hit the upright twice and some brazen marking by Mel’Michelin’Grant (in full goalie kit) denied our opponents. Team, what can I say – you are awesome! What a great result for us for the year. Till next year’s challenges!
– Cindy Dyamond

L4 (5th team) vs Pioneers: 2 – 1 win

L5 (6th team) vs Durbanville C: 1 – 0 win

MEN

M2 A (4th team) vs Pinelands B: 1 – 2 loss
Our second derby game, and our last of the season, was as unpleasant as the first. I don’t understand why these two Pinelands teams can’t relax and play against one another in good spirit. Bad tackling and aggressive play by both sides. And it’s funny that in this last game we had three subs when for most of the season we’ve generally managed only 11. Ag, well! The season’s over and the bonus point from this game saved us from relegation.

L2 B (4th team) vs CPUT Wellington: 2 – 2 draw
While some of us had the pleasure of waking up to the sounds of geese and ducks (www.pickardie.co.za), Michelle ‘Matriarch’ Hoben was away catching tiger fish, El ‘Snotty-nose’ Mullins was unable to play, Pippa ‘Show-girl’ Readhead was entertaining others and Jen ‘Bad back’ Spiro is out for the balance of the season. The rest of us made our way down the loooooongest Main Road (eva!) to Paarl Gym to take-on CPUT. We always knew that (like all our games this season) this would not be an easy one and in order to return victorious we would have tocall on all our cunning and experience. We would have to work together as a finely oiled hunting machine. In the first half we played well but could not convert our gazillion opportunities and as each opportunity went begging, so did our structure. The second half we also had a number of chances, with Nadya ‘Lightning’ Buchanan running wonderful lines and setting up some amazing chances, which were not converted. Ade ‘ BEE’ May did well to fill her hero’s shoes and control the defense. A couple of well timed andexecuted tackles certainly saved our bacon, especially against the rampaging ‘Caster Semenya’. Some shoddy marking saw CPUT go one ahead. Determined we fought back and were eventually rewarded when Careen ‘Cracker’ Mckinon went forthe kill. With about 5 minutes on the clock we were once again rewarded when Nadya ‘Lightning’ Buchanan hit the target. I am not sure what happened, but we did not hold the ball and keep possession and onceagain some nonexistent marking resulted in 2 CPUT players able to ching-chong-cha before beating a more than frustrated Mel ‘Michelin’ Grant, to draw the game. Let’s make the last encounter for 2011 count !

MEN

M2 A (4th team) vs WPCC: 1 – 4 loss

M5 A (8th team) vs Hermanus: 4 – 1 win
Last half we travelled out to Hermanus and got a hiding (1-5), this time we returned the favour. After a promising start where we took a 1-0 lead with James grabbing another “Jimmy Mills” like goal, we lost our way and allowed them a soft equaliser. From a shortie just before half time we managed to get a second scored by Andrew. After a rousing half time pep talk by skipper Hollies we came out firing in the second half. After missing 3 fairly straight forward chances early in the 2nd half we finally extended our lead thanks to a great finish by Hollies. We then got out bonus point goal, again from a shortie, again scored by Andrew. From then on both sides had chances to score, more so us, but that’s how it ended. Only our 2nd home win and those were the last 2 matches too. In the end we have come 7th out of 14, considering the 1st round results we can be happy with that… Well done to the team!
– Drew Croxford

M5 A (8th team) vs UCT B: 2 – 2 draw
After the UCT side arrived late (with a few of their friends in tow), we made a fast start, getting the first goal (Craig hit the post, the ball came back in, hit their keeper and rolled over the line!), but this woke UCT up and they laid siege to our goal, where stand in Murray had an brilliant game. UCT did manage to grab a goal from a shortie when the postman (me) missed the ball…sorry Murray! Half time 1-1. In the 2nd half after both sides missed chances UCT took the lead. From there they raised their game, but could not breach Murray again. With 5 to go we got a shortie and Craig managed to score once again for us to grab a fortunate draw, but we’ll take it
With the warm African sun blazing out of the bright blue sky, the chilling polar air reminded us it’s till winter! Ok that and the factwe are still playing outdoor hockey! For some unknown reason we were shortof time to warm up (which generally does not take long for us oldies), so when we took the park, were somewhat unsettled. The Conberg goal-box was not protectedby an ‘oros’ man, yet it took us a good 10 minutes to put the first ball in the box. Genee ‘Post-it’ Clarke (playing left wing) only realized there was no goalie, when the first goal was scored. The first and second goal werereplica’s with Careen ‘Cracker’ Mc Kinon feeding Nadya ‘Lightning’ Buchanan, who treated the Conberg players as anthills and ran circles round them beforegently pushing the ball over the line. Their goalie arrived and we hit abit of a drought. Dal’e-lama’ Dunbar scored our 3rd, when she got the onlytouch from a ‘pin-ball’ game in the circle. Mid-way through the second half Nadya ‘Hat-trick’ Buchanan casually scored her third. Kathy ‘Road Runner’ Smith, celebrated like she had just scored the winning goal in some major cupfinal. Somewhere between our 4th and 5th goal we allowed Conberg to havean open shot at a diving Mel ‘Michelin’ Grant. All in all a great game by the masters clan. Next, the trek to Paarl, for hopefully another win but certainly an afternoon of enjoyment and great hockey.

L4 (5th team) vs Cafe Del Mar: 1 – 2 loss

L5 (6th team) vs Bellville : 2 – 3 loss

L5 (6th team) vs Durbanville B : 0 – 3 loss

MEN

MGC (1st team) vs Stellenbosch: 1 – 2 loss

MTC A (2nd team) vs Somerset West: 0 – 5 loss

MTC B (3rd team) vs UCT B: 2 – 1 win

M2 A (4th team) vs Central: 1 – 7 loss
Central caused all sorts of trouble over having to play us at our home ground for the second time this season due to a mistake in the fixtures. We declined changing the fixture to play at Vygies because of one of our guys reffing M3’s game, which was before ours at Hartleyvale, and one of M3’s guys due to ref ours. Despite tehunion ruling in our favour, Central decided to appeal and it looked like the game was going to be delayed. So we agreed to play at Vygies with a half an hour delay so the player and ref could get to the field. After all, who besides Central actually cares if you play at Vygies or Hartleyvale? // That drama over, we still started the game 10 min late because of the Central keeper arriving late and taking his time to kit up. Not sure why we actually waited for him… The game started well for us and we put in the first goal. But after the first 15 min things started going downhill and in teh second half they went off the cliff. Central were clearly fitter than us and our lack of subs was a major problem. Our links were tired and didn’t get back quick enough, and our defence was regularly overwhelmed. // A very disappointing result given that we drew against them last time when we were far down on the log and they were high up on it. Our thanks to Luke for filling in and Andrew van Haght for reffing.
– Marc Pelteret

M2 B (5th team) vs Van der Stell: 1 – 3 loss
I think that after beating the log leaders last weekend a bit of over confidence crept into our side and Van der Stell put us right back down by beating us 3-1. Nothing went our way, we missed plenty of open goals, hitting the post twice, had about 15 short corners without converting 1, plenty of missed tackles and wayward passes, they took their few chances they had and made us pay for it. Best we forget the game and concentrate on our last 2 games to try and maintain 2nd spot on the log.
– Anton Hanekom

M3 (6th team) vs VOB: 2 – 6 loss

M4 (7th team) vs Fish Hoek: 2 – 1 win

M5 A (8th team) vs Durbanville B: 0 – 1 loss
Shocking field, terrible opposition, a poor result, but a beautiful day in the boerewors belt! In a game we hold sway for most of the match, we just failed to take our chances, conceded 1 in the second half, and that’s how it ended. Yet another match we’ve ended as the losing side that we should have won, think that’s the 4th this season! We just need to be more clinical in front of goal, then our position in the league would have been closer to top 4 rather than 8th… Two matches left to go, a midweek fixture and our final match at home this Sat… then we can look forward to summer!
– Drew Croxford

M5 B (9th team) vs Durbanville A: 0 – 2 loss

Masters A vs Cafe del Mar: 1 – 3 loss

L2 A (3rd team) vs Conberg: 2 – 0 win
It was hot, astro was hard and dry and as it stood, Con Berg lies just below us in the league. Therefore before any play began we knew we had to win and WIN with a BONUS point. I’m not sure if the thought of that rattled us a bit but our game throughout wasn’t consistent. We had great highlights throughout but would have been a super game if we held it together a bit more. We got two great goals in in the second half. I think with more determination, hard practice and faith in each other, we soon will be a team to be reckoned with. Goals scored by Mel and Jules.
– Courtney Du Toit

L2 B (4th team) vs Central: 6 – 0 win
After our disappointing loss against Central in the 1st round, the masters took to the field in the blazing sun at Vygies with a point to prove. And boy did we prove it! The play makers made it all look so easy and by the end of the first half we had a solid 3-0 lead. The team cry was “Bonus” – which Nadya “Lightning” Buchanan took to heart, taking a self pass, dodging the sleeping central team and scoring the bonus point goal 11 seconds into the second half. Michelle ”The Legend” Hobens’ instructions for a short corner were then followed to the ‘T’ and surprise, surprise – goal number 5 and Carreen “Goal Hog” Mckinnons’ 4th for the day! Nadya slotted the final nail in the central coffin with her second of the day. A great day at the office for the oldies – bonus points two weeks running. Bring on next week’s challenge!

MEN

M2 A (4th team) vs Van der Stel: 1 – 2 loss
We arrived at the Stellenbosch astro only to find… no parking. Turns out that there was a Greys vs Paul Roos rugby match on. So for many of us our warm-up was the long walk up the road! We dominated the first half of the game but just didn’t use our opportunities. We ended the first half rather hot (who would’ve thought it was winter, given the heat out there that day) and tied 1 – 1. The second half did not go as well for us, but we managed to hold them off for the most part. Then a hit across goal at chest height was tapped at goals, but stopped by yours truly. Sadly, I did so with my hand (pure reflex: it was coming just past my chest). (Luckily I was given only a green: the ref saw that I didn’t do it on purpose.) And so they got a p-flick and went up by one, which was how the game ended. Afterwards, Mike managed to convince the ref that he made the wrong call: the hit at goal was dangerous because I was in front of the player. Of little consolation to us though!
– Marc Pelteret

M2 B (5th team) vs WPCC: 5 – 1 win
Log leaders WPCC haven’t lost a game in years and after we beat them 5-1 they were in a state of shock. Every one of us put in 100% and couldn’t do anything wrong which put them on the back foot from start to finish, the best hockey our team has played all year and the 5-1 win was well deserved, well done guys.
– Anton Hanekom

M4 (7th team) vs Conberg: 1 – 2 loss
The great day rolled around and the mighty dodo’s arrived. The arena was not so much undulating but jaggered. The pitch being blamed for dangerously lifting the ball time and time again, this would have been true if the trajectory of the ball was horizontal from the moment of impact, but enough science for now. The highlight of the game was one Andrew J Stone completing a tackle that any professional rugby player would be proud of, unfortunately the tackle was made and the smallest of our opposition walked off crying. The Springboks had a great win, the Dodo’s came second. Next game Monday 3 a.m. Nelson Mandela Bay Astro turf, ROAD TRIP!

A string of missed opportunities for Kaspersky Southerns in a tight semi final meant Echelon Western Province were able to guarantee their place in the final of the SA Men’s Interprovincial Tournament at Kaspersky complex in Randburg, Johannesburg with a 3-2 victory.

Without the outstanding performance delivered by WP’s goalkeeper Jacques le Roux, the outcome may have been completely different. His alert decision-making was spot on throughout the game and denied the passionate Southerns side on numerous occasions. Even with a total of six penalty corners, Southerns were unable to convert chances into goals.

The tournaments’ leading goal scorer and National captain Austin Smith was on fire again today. He notched up two goals from the only two set pieces awarded to WP during the game, thus now giving him a total of seven goals in their four games played. David Wilson was also on form as he saved a Southerns shot off the goal line while striker Lloyd Norris Jones fired home a terrific reverse stick shot to keep the WP side in front.

Although the host province found it challenging to find the back of the net, their courageous team spirit shone through. Ollie Whitely and Tebogo Lerole eventually netted for Southerns but with only one minute to play they were unable to find the equalizer they so desperately sought.

KZN Coastals were victorious over Northerns Blues in the other semi final, which turned out to be a thrilling affair. The WP team will have to overcome KZN to achieve their mission of being crowned champions.

Next game: Echelon Western Province v KZN Coastals, 4.30pm on Saturday 20th August at Kaspersky complex in Randburg, Johannesburg.

Although slow out of the starting blocks, the Echelon Western Province side were able to eventually overcome Eastern Province in the last of the pool matches at the SA Men’s Interprovincial Tournament at Kaspersky complex in Randburg, Johannesburg.

Having already made it through to the semi finals, WP gave a languid performance against a much-improved EP side but still managed to attain a 4-1 win. EP started solidly with strict man-to-man marking that meant WP found it hard to gain territory. Even with copious amounts of possession, WP were unable to finish their chances as their opponents defended deeply as a unit.

Against the run of play, EP were awarded a set-piece of which they neatly put away to break the stalemate. The WP side looked lackluster at times but on the few occasions they were able to break through their rivals defence, EP’s goalkeeper Brendan Botes was at hand to pull out some fine saves and ensure his team kept the lead.

At long last WP equalised through National captain Austin Smith’s perfectly struck set piece before the teams went in for the break. Continuing their momentum straight after play resumed, Lloyd Norris-Jones netted a stunning solo goal of which he celebrated in style.

After a stick tackle, Smith was presented with a yellow card and sent to the bench for 5 minutes. While returning to the field the whistle was blown awarding WP a penalty corner. Confusion ensued and Smith was then prohibited from entering the field of play to take the set piece. After the game, the Technical Director gave an apology for the wrong decision being made but by that time the chance was already gone.

Fortunately this mishap did not affect the final result as Matt Botha spectacularly deflected a pinpoint cross to find the back of the net in the latter part of the game. “EP had upped their game and were a very physical side but we played a good passing game and were patient in the second half,” the goal scorer commented. EP ran out of steam and Ian Haley was able to secure the victory with a final goal from a skillful penalty corner variation.

Next game: Echelon Western Province v Kaspersky Southerns, 2.30pm on Friday 19th August at Kaspersky complex in Randburg, Johannesburg.

Day two of the SA Men’s Interprovincial Hockey tournament at Kaspersky complex in Randburg went underway with a fiery first match between Northerns Blues and Echelon Western Province. WP clinched a 2-1 victory in a game that swung from end to end in a spectacular manner.

Northerns were the more influential team in the first half, setting the rhythm of the game at their swift tempo however WP soaked up the pressure with ease and were able to break down their opponents attacking play. Chances were few and far between for both teams nevertheless penalty corner specialist and SA National captain Austin Smith eventually broke the deadlock with a well-timed set piece against the run of play just before half time.

Whatever was said during the break must have energized the WP side as they returned to the field ready to prove themselves, having lost their last encounter with Northerns in the semi finals of this tournament last year. Both teams battled hard in the midfield and defended confidently to ensure the score sheet was not altered for an extensive period. Finally, WP were able to break through and Smith confidently slotted away a reverse-stick shot to put WP firmly in the drivers seat.

National player Justin Reid-Ross did make an appearance for Northerns but it lasted only a few minutes due to an injury he sustained at the recent All Star Series National camp last week. It was clear that his side missed his impressive flicking ability as their set pieces lacked punch.

Some questionable umpiring throughout the game frustrated the players but their self-belief did not waver. Although the majority of the match was played within the middle of the field, Northerns were finally able to break through the nine man WP defence to seal a token goal less than a minute before the final whistle blew. Unfortunately it was too little, too late.

“I was happy with the energy and tempo of my team,” expressed Northerns captain Rhett Halkett, “but we didn’t take the chances that we created for ourselves which we will have to do tomorrow as it is a must win game for us to make top four.” Following their win, WP have secured their semi final spot and the team were pleased with the result.

Next game: Echelon Western Province v Eastern Province, 2pm on Thursday 18th August at Kaspersky complex in Randburg, Johannesburg.

Echelon Western Province gave a solid performance to overcome fellow provincial team, the Western Province Peninsula. A fast paced game with goals a plenty from the first whistle resulted in a 7-1 victory to the Echelon WP side.

Prior to the match, Pierre Le Roux, Echelon WP coach for the eighth time, was confident in his team but was expecting a close fought game at the SA Men’s Interprovincial Hockey Tournament at Kaspersky complex in Randburg, Johannesburg on Tuesday. “We should win on paper as we have the most experienced team at the tournament, but it depends how hard the Peninsula side play today,” commented Pierre.

The Echelon WP side came out onto the field with energy in abundance and early into the first half Matt Botha slotted away a well-executed goal. However, the youthful Peninsula fought back hard to equalize through Lance de Kock soon afterwards. Captain of the Echelon WP side, Andrew Cronje suggested that it was a “lackadaisical attitude” that caused his team to concede so quickly after they took the lead.

Nevertheless, Echelon WP’s momentum continued to build with great possession hockey and additional goals from Grant Robertson and Ian Haley. Peninsula’s hopes of points from the game were swiftly ended when SA National captain Austin Smith netted a set piece and a far post deflection within a mere 50 seconds to put his team up 6-1.

The vast experience of the Echelon WP side, with nine players gaining National caps and two more currently in the National set up, was evident as the game progressed and Lungile Tsolekile scored what was to be the final goal of the match. Though Cronje was happy with his team’s performance, he also noted “we need to work on defending counter attacks to get the results we want for the rest of the week”.

Next game: Northerns Blues v Echelon Western Province, 9am on Wednesday 17th August at Kaspersky complex in Randburg, Johannesburg.

LGC (1st team) vs Central: 1 – 0 win
A freezing, cold Monday night at Hartleyvale did not provide the most suitable conditions for our match against Central. However, a 1-1 draw against Central in the first half of the season, provided sufficient motivation to succeed this time round. Having won our last two consecutive matches this season, the Pineland’s Ladies felt confident that a victory was obtainable. The first half of the match was characterized by ‘scrappy’ play and although there were plenty of attacking opportunities, Pinelands were unable to score a goal. Despite a number of attacking short corners, the Pineland’s ladies found it difficult to score. Fortunately, great short corner defense prevented any goals from being conceded. The second half proved to be far more successful with the only goal of the match being scored by Robyn Clemment. There were successful passages of attacking play and defensively the team worked well as a unit. All in all, the game was a success, with the Pinelands ladies winning their third match in a row.
– Leigh Charlton

LGC (1st team) vs Bellville: 2 – 0 win
The 1st team ladies continued their impressive form with their 5th consecutive victory on Saturday. The match started late again due to the umpires not arriving, but we are so used to this scenario by now we almost expect it. We did not play the best hockey in the first half and Bellville actually had the upper hand. Still, the half time score was 0-0. Coach Morgan gave us a firm talking to at half time and we started the 2nd half with more aggression and confidence. It was a tightly fought battle for most of the match. Pinelands was awarded a short corner in the last 10 minutes and Reyhana Henry smashed the ball into the bottom right corner, and we took the lead 1-0. Only a minute or so later, Pinelands were on the attack again down the right. Good, quick play from Angie Little and great running from Nicola Croxford along the baseline set up the goal which was scored by Stacey West. The score finished 2-0 to the Lands. Even though Bellville had more possession and may have had more chances, as Coach Morgan said “They can have 20 chances and not score, we only need 5 quality chances and we will score” With only one game to go, we will do our best to ensure we maintain our 100% record this half of the season. Thanks to Ant and Mike for umpiring for us.
– Stacey West

LTC (2nd team) vs Fishhoek: 1 – 1 draw
The second team ladies were back on their home turf this week against the Fish hoek ladies. Fewer subs this time, and minus a coach for the game… but never fear Gill was there for us crutches and all and the ship for us!!! This was a tough or rather intense game …. played with much passion and at time much ferocity, on ours and their part. Having conquered the elusive first goal saga last week we put ourselves to the test again…. Going down initially but never fear we regained our composure and strength on the ball and eventually muscled our way back into a draw at 1 a piece, justice prevailed!
– Sim White

L2 B (4th team) vs Durbanville B: 4 – 0 win
We started the game in rather chilly conditions, infact if I did not know any better, I would have thought there was snow on Table Mountain. The first 10 minutes or so we played some uninspiring hockey. Was it going to be another one of those games? After the first set of substitutions were made, Dal ‘e-lama’ Dunbar passed to Nadya ‘Lightning’ Buchannan, who dodged a couple of Durbanville players, ran the baseline and found Careen ‘Cracker’ Mc Kinon waiting on the p-spot – bulls eye! The second goal followed a few minutes later – dejavue – just this time the ball found a waiting Genee ‘post-it’ Clarke, who hit the target. Mel ‘Michelin’ Grant, did not want to get her moneys worth as the one and only chance she got to make a save, she kicked right over the ball; it was rather amusing watching her land on her rear-end! Fortunately, Michelle ‘Legend’ Hoben was around to clear the ball off the line and save a certain goal. I bet you did not know that The Legend was an accomplished gymnast in ‘her day’ – well, she must have been to pull off the splits before playing the ball – twice!! We went into the break, 2 – 0 up. The second half started with us pushing for a 3rd. We were rewarded and then denied in about the 17th minute – apparently Durbanville heard ‘their’ umpires whistle for the first and only time of the game! Determined and with some brilliant interplay between Careen and Nadya, saw Nadya set Careen up, once again. A few minutes later and dejavue again – Careen in the right spot at the right time for her hattrick!! The game ended a bit like a tennis match with lots of long ball to the others baseline. Well done, ole girls !! Next, off to Central to hunt for the win. MD
– Cindy Dymond

MEN

M2 A (4th team) vs Somerset West: 2 – 1 win
What a win! The first goal of the match was a flick off a shorty that Moses managed to slow down so that it could have been stopped by the defender on far post, had he not been taking evasive action for the ball he saw flying at his head (I didn’t feel like having another trip to hospital, thank you). That was the only goal of the first half, so Somerset were one up on us at half-time. Though we hadn’t playing very well, they certainly weren’t playing well enough to repeat their 12 – 1 win of the first game of the season. And so we went into the second half determined to get that goal back and put a few extras in the back of their net. One of our shots at goal hit the leg a defender of a standing on the goal line, but instead of appealing to the ref, Jarryd simply put it in the goal. And so we were tie. The pressure was on! Jarryd made a lovely cross-field pass to Pike running up the right, which he controlled and smashed in from top D. It was beautiful to watch! (Jarryd said that he was the person who was most surprised that the pass got there.) A goal up, all we had to do was keep out and maintain the pressure. Despite a couple of shorties against us, quite a bit of complaining by our opposition, and a lot of calls from Somserset’s headbanded player/ref up front, we kept our cool and our lead until the end! Well done to Moses for a fantastic bit of keeping, and our thanks to the guys who filled in for us and Luke for reffing at such short notice.
– Marc Pelteret

M3 (6th team) vs Somerset West: 2 – 2 draw
A good efffort put in by the guys. M3 starting to build some momentum and pick up points towards the end of the season.
– Andrew van Haght

M5 A (8th team) vs Northlink: 4 – 1 win
A home win at last. We took a lead via P flick brilliantly put away by Ferdi. This after Preacher had saved a P flick against us. We even got a 2nd P flick later, but that was saved by their keeper. Never have experienced 3 in one match! Quite a scrappy first half, where we did ourselves no favours, but did manage to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. In the second half we had a far better team performance, this despite a 20 minute downpour in the middle of the half. Great team performance in the second half to secure the first home win. Now we have a bye next week, so our unbeaten run will continue at least into a four week. Well played team!
– Drew Croxford
