LGC (1st team) vs Durbanville: 2 – 2 draw

L2 A (3rd team) vs WPCC: 2 – 1 win

L2 B (4th team) vs Milnerton: 1 – 1 draw
Where has the year gone, the last game of the season against top of the log Milnerton had arrived. We were amped and ready to finish the season off with a bang. The full squad minus Jenny ‘bad-back’ Spiro, gathered in the den and eagerly awaited the game plan from MH ‘Coach’ Hoben. Nadya ‘lightning’ Buchanan had a blonde moment … how can we play with 5 forwards, 5 links and 6 defenders but was protectively defended by her twin, Ade ‘BEE’ May. Debbie ‘tourist’ Law, could hardly contain her excitement to be playing another game, Sandi ‘time-keeper’ Smith could not seem to find a comfortable perch, Cindy ‘SS’ Dyamond appears not to know her left from her right shoe. The warm-up was uneventful with Kathy ‘roadrunner’ Smith managing to stay on her feet, Pippa ‘dance’ Readhead practicing the pop and Dal’e-lama’ in her own space. Paul ‘the blower’ West called the captains and El ‘tosser’ Mullins, did her thing. Les ‘Techie’ West became the official photographer for the day. Milnerton managed to score (in the first quarter) with a ball moving at snail’s pace – beating Michelle ‘legend’ Hoben on the post. The game migrated all over the park. Milnerton did their level best to pull us out of our formation, to no avail. We tried very trick in the book, including Careen ‘cracker’ McKinon passing left! Shar ‘Strategist’ Kruger called the shots at the short corner and still we could not capitalize. Eventually in the last quarter, with the first shot ricocheting off the keeper back to a determined Alison ‘no-name’ Gray for a second shot which went like a bullet into the back of the box. In the second half, despite Genee’post-it’ Clarke finding herself in favorable positions and Wendy ‘woolies’ Gray some well angled overheads we were not able to add to our tally. Milnerton gave it horns and hit the upright twice and some brazen marking by Mel’Michelin’Grant (in full goalie kit) denied our opponents. Team, what can I say – you are awesome! What a great result for us for the year. Till next year’s challenges!

MEN

M2 A (4th team) vs Pinelands B: 1 – 2 loss
Our second derby game, and our last of the season, was as unpleasant as the first. I don’t understand why these two Pinelands teams can’t relax and play against one another in good spirit. Bad tackling and aggressive play by both sides. And it’s funny that in this last game we had three subs when for most of the season we’ve generally managed only 11. Ag, well! The season’s over and the bonus point from this game saved us from relegation.
